Good question, I'll let Curt provide the official answer--but I have read that there are actually people who manually register a lot of these spam names.

In other words, they're not all 'bots' that do this stuff, apparently. Some person, usually based in a part of the world where American Football isn't very popular, allegedly gets on their computer and goes through all sorts of websites, manually registering user names then posts this garbage./

The most amazing part of it all is that some people out there are stupid enough to buy this crap.
