Apr 16, 1998: -- Dolphins Trade Year 2000 Pick to Panthers --
The Dolphins have traded their first round pick in the year
2000 for the Carolina Panthers' 2nd round draft pick this year. That
will give the Dolphins the 43rd pick in the draft on Saturday in
addition to the 19th and 48th picks.
JJ said that the Dolphins were targeting a number of players
that they felt would be available in the second round and that they
would get great value from having the pick now instead of 2 years from
now.
My Comments:
Another bullet from the blue, so to speak, courtesy of Jimmy
Johnson.
Given the history of the Dolphins' draft under JJ, this trade
seems like a good deal right now. It may not look so good in two
years.
Another thing to remember, however, is that the Dolphins must
give up their current 2nd round pick, which is the 48th overall pick
in the draft, if they sign Chester McGlockton today. This could be a
prelude to the signing of McGlockton.
