Jan 14, 1997: -- New Uniforms Unveiled --
DOLPHINS NEWS:
The Dolphins unveiled their new uniforms and logo this
afternoon, but if you had poor eyesight or were a long way from the
team, you might not know the difference between the new uniforms and
the old.
The new logo has a more "modern" look, with the Dolphin still
jumping through a sunburst, which has the same color scheme of a white
sunburst with an orange border. However, the sunburst itself is
simpler and looks raised from the background.
The Dolphin still has a white football helmet, and a more
serious expression, with no smiling and eyes that are more focused and
intense, but he isn't showing teeth and he's not snarling.
The uniforms themselves are the same combination of a white
shirt and aqua pants for light colors and aqua shirts and white pants
for dark colors. The helmets are still white, with orange and aqua
stripes down the middle and the logo on the side.
The changes to the uniforms include 3-D numbers on the front
and back and on each shoulder, along with logos on both sleeves. The
pants have a central orange stripe down the leg, bordered on both
sides by a white stripe and then an aqua stripe.
The aqua color has been darkened about 2 shades, making the
color more of a dark blue-green, instead of the lighter teal shade
that they used.
My Comments:
The new logo and uniforms are so similar to the old that it's
hard to understand why they made the changes, but they do have a more
"modern" look. I doubt that there will be much opposition to the new
look.
There is something more "cartoony" about the new look,
however, and I feel a little like an old friend has left town. I
don't think that I like the new look....
