Nov 02, 1998: -- Webb Out 6 Weeks With Injury --
Not only did the Dolphins lose the game to the Bills
yesterday, but they've lost left tackle Richmond Webb for up to six
weeks with a torn triceps tendon. Webb injured himself during the
game yesterday and will have surgery on the tendon to repair it,
possibly as early as today.
While Webb is out, Jeff Buckey will most likely step in for
him at left tackle. Buckey was drafted in 1996 by JJ and started at
left guard for most of last season, replacing Keith Sims.
Before today, Richmond Webb had started all but 2 games since
his was drafted by the Dolphins in 1990. He was named to seven
consecutive Pro Bowls starting with his rookie year in 1990.
My Comments:
When it rains, it pours. Losing to the Bills yesterday wasn't
bad enough - now Webb will be out for up to 6 weeks, possibly more.
I suppose it could be worse. Jeff Buckey is not as naturally
talented as Webb, but he does have one year of experience as a starter
and this is his third year on the team. It's not like we're plugging
in an untested rookie.
And I know that there are those who have said that Webb is not
worth the money the Dolphins have been paying him. I haven't
generally agreed with that, but now we'll find out for sure.
