Oct 14, 1998: -- Doxzon Signed --
The Dolphins announced today that they have signed quarterback
Todd Doxzon to the regular roster from the practice squad. To make
room for Doxzon on the regular roster, they have waived cornerback
Emmanuel McDaniel.
Doxzon is a multi-purpose player, having played wide receiver
in NFL Europe this spring, but was a quarterback in college, passing
for 3,158 yards with 21 touchdowns and 17 interceptions in his 4 years
at Iowa State.
My Comments:
Receivers coach Robert Ford has called Doxzon the fastest man
on the team. Or, more exactly, the "dadgum" fastest man on the team.
It's hard to imagine that Doxzon will get any playing time,
but if he is that fast, he might be able to work his way on to special
teams or perhaps even get to play at wide receiver. He's been on the
practice squad for a week now and I suppose that they like what
they've seen of him.
At 6'0" and 186 pounds, Doxzon isn't the biggest guy around,
but if he's speedy, that may be enough to get him a closer look. In
NFL Europe this spring, he caught 8 passes for 135 yards and 2
touchdowns in 4 games.
What the heck. He can't hurt anything, right?
