Jul 11, 1998: -- Bromell and Kitts Sign --

The Dolphins announced yesterday that they have re-signed backup fullback Jim Kitts to a one year deal and have signed draft choice Lorenzo Bromell to a 3 year deal for undisclosed terms.

Kitts was signed last year in the middle of the season from the Packers' practice squad after spending some time with the Packers and the Redskins. He also has 2 years of Arena Football experience and was signed to help bolster special teams, which he did quite well last fall.

Kitts was also given the award for being the workout king among the linebackers and running backs this summer after he led them in competitive bench-pressing two weeks ago. He is currently listed at the number 2 linebacker after Stanley Pritchett on the depth chart.

Bromell is the second of the Dolphins' draft choices to sign a contract. Bromell played two years at Clemson and holds the distinction of being the only player that JJ has traded up for since he took over coaching the Dolphins in 1996.

Both players are expected to contribute to the team this fall.

My Comments:

As you already know, I always enjoy seeing the underdogs make the team in any capacity. I really like Kitts because he's paid his dues and worked his way up through Arena football and kept fighting for a spot on the team.

Anybody who's watched Arena football knows that the entire game is like watching a special teams drill and I'm sure that that experience helped Kitts develop his talents. I sure hope he makes it in the NFL.

You probably also know that I like Bromell. He may relegated to pass rushing specialist in his first year or two in the league, but he should be able to help Miami get pressure on opposing quarterbacks from the start of the year. I think he's a very special player.

Well, that makes 2 draftees down and 8 to go. And according to the Herald, it looks like Brad Jackson will be signing shortly.
