Jul 11, 1997: -- Lee McClinton Waived --
The Dolphins waived fullback Lee McClinton yesterday, making
McClinton the first veteran to get dumped in training camp this
season.
This would have been McClinton's third training camp with the
Dolphins, having spent last year and the year before on the Dolphins'
practice squad during the regular season.
According to a report in the Herald, JJ released McClinton
because he's impressed with undrafted rookie free agent fullback Ray
Nealy. This release leaves the Dolphins with 4 fullbacks on the
roster - Stanley Pritchett, Robert Wilson, Dewayne Dotson and Ray
Nealy.
My Comments:
McClinton has been in and out of the Dolphins camp so many
times that you have to wonder if he's dizzy. Calling him a veteran is
a little misleading, but he's certainly not a rookie.
He's one of those guys who comes out of nowhere that I love to
see succeed, but the truth is that most of them don't succeed. Most
end up like McClinton.
