Jul 09, 1997: -- Jason Taylor Signs --
ESPNet Sportszone is reporting this afternoon that the
Dolphins have signed their last draft pick, DE Jason Taylor, to a 3
year contract for undisclosed terms. The signing of Taylor completes
the signing of all 14 draft picks and lets the Dolphins get on with
their training camp.
It's a little hard to figure out Taylor's contract, but
figure that he got about $900,000 over the three years, which would
include a $300,000 signing bonus. The Dolphins were hoping for a 4
year deal initially, but have settled for 3 years.
Also in the news, the Dolphins waived punter Rob Deignan, whom
they had signed only about 10 weeks ago.
My Comments:
With all the draftees signed, the attention of the staff can
turn completely to getting on with training camp.
And the rest of us can breathe a little easier.
As for Deignan, he really didn't have much of a chance to beat
out John Kidd, who had an outstanding year last year. By cutting him
early, he will get a chance to sign with another team.
