** Yatil Green Agrees to Terms
According to this morning's Miami Herald, the Dolphins and 1st
round draft pick Yatil Green have reached agreement on a 5 year
contract that will pay him a reported $6.25 million, including a $3
million signing bonus.
While some final details remain to be worked out, the Herald
says that the Dolphins and Green's agent Drew Rosenhaus had a marathon
negotiating session on Thursday that resulted in an agreement in
principle.
Also supposedly agreeing to terms was second round pick Sam
Madison. Madison has apparently agreed to a deal for a 4 year
contract for undisclosed terms.
In order to clear some salary cap room to finish signing the
draftees, the Dolphins are negotiating with veterans like James Brown,
Terrell Buckley, Richmond Webb, Trace Armstrong and Tim Bowens on
contract extensions. This is especially important in Bowens' case,
because his contract runs out this season.
** Dolphins Will Scrimmage in the Orange Bowl
The Dolphins have scheduled an intra-squad scrimmage for
Saturday, July 19th, at the old home of the team, the Orange Bowl.
The team is trying to get at least one scrimmage a year in the Orange
Bowl, although this year scheduling conflicts prevented the Dolphins
from scrimmaging another team.
Current plans are to have the scrimmage at 1 PM and to allow
the general public in free.
** Tickets Go On Sale Saturday
Just a reminder that single game tickets for the Dolphins'
home games go on sale this Saturday at 10 AM in Miami. Tickets may be
purchased in person at the Gate G ticket office at Joe Robbie Stadium
or through Ticketmaster. Ticket prices are $45 sidelines, $38 upper
corners, $37 upper end zones and $24 economy sections.
** Alvin Harper Signs with Redskins
Free Agent Alvin Harper wasted no time in signing a 3 year
deal with the Washington Redskins after being cut by the Tampa Bay
Buccaneers earlier this week. This unites Harper with his old coach
Norv Turner in Washington.
My Comments:
It's obviously good to get Yatil Green signed right away, but
frankly I'm more pleased that Sam Madison has agreed to a deal. From
what I've heard, Madison may be able to contribute as much or more
than Green this first year.
To compare the deal that Green got with other deals, I've done
a little research and it appears that John Mobley got a little less
last year than Green has agreed to. LB John Mobley, as you may know,
was drafted at the same position in the draft last year as Green was
this year.
Last year, of course, the Dolphins took Daryl Gardener at the
number 20 position in the draft and his contract was for 5 years at
$5.5 million with a $1.8 million signing bonus.
See? I told you not to worry about signing the draft picks. ;-)
