May 08, 1997: -- McDuffie Has Hernia Surgery --
According to a report on ESPN, Dolphins receiver OJ McDuffie
had surgery to fix a double hernia yesterday. The surgery to repair
bi-lateral inguinal hernias was performed in Tampa by Dr. Joseph
Diaco, team surgeon for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who specializes in
hernia surgery for athletes.
McDuffie is expected to be ready for the start of training
camp in July, but will probably be held out of the mini-camp in June
as a precautionary measure.
My Comments:
Ouch!
I suspect that the "groin pull" that McDuffie apparently
suffered during mini-camp was actually his hernia. I'm sure that
he'll recover fully and be ready for the season.
And actually, since McDuffie's spot on the team is pretty
safe, this is a chance for the rookies to get some more work with
Marino during mini-camp in June. That may make the difference for
some of them in making the team.
