Mar 29, 1997: -- Draft Picks --
First of all, a correction to my last post. I stated that the
Dolphins had traded a 4th round pick to the Jets for OT James Brown.
That's incorrect, as a number of people have pointed out to me. The
Dolphins actually traded their 5th round pick to the Jets for Brown.
So here is the latest information I have about the Dolphins'
current draft choices:
Round No. Comments
1 15
2 44
3 73
3 92 Compensatory Pick
3 93 Compensatory Pick
3 96 Compensatory Pick
4 112
4 123 From San Francisco for Terry Kirby
5 149 From Kansas City for Pete Stoyanovich
6 177
It should be noted here that the Dolphins now have 6 picks in
the first 100. Also, if the Dolphins choose to trade any of these
picks, they can't trade away any of their compensatory picks.
My Comments:
The rumors persist that Miami will trade up with Baltimore for
a number of draft picks and perhaps a player. The player mentioned
for the trade is Richmond Webb. If Webb is traded, however, we must
ask who would take his place? Has Jeff Buckey matured enough to play
left tackle?
It's hard to imagine that JJ would trade away one of his best
offensive linemen, but stranger things have happened. If Miami does
make that trade, the two players that are mentioned JJ might draft
with that pick are DE/LB Peter Boulware and LB Dwayne Rudd.
The other possible trade was with rumored to be with Oakland,
but it now appears that the Seattle trade has put that rumor to rest.
