DOLPHINS NEWS:
The Miami Herald is reporting this morning that the Dolphins
will get new uniforms next season. The team won't be changing it's
basic color scheme, but there will be some enhancements and color
accents that are supposed to make the uniforms more modern and more
in-line with other teams.
Supposedly, the modifications include adding Navy blue
accents, more stripes and making the Dolphin on the side of the helmet
more "aggressive". Plus, the aqua color will be darkened to make it
more like it originally was designed to be back in 1966.
Also in the news, it looks like guard Keith Sims will start on
Sunday against the Raiders. He's been improving steadily since he
returned to practice on Wednesday and JJ has said that he'll probably
be ready to go.
And it looks as if Louis Oliver may not see much playing time
on Sunday. Oliver bruised his ribs against the Steelers and is
questionable. Between the injury and his missed assignment on the
final Steeler touchdown, Oliver definitely will not start and may even
be inactive. Safety Shawn Wooden will start in Olivers' place at
strong safety and Sean Hill will move into the starting spot at free
safety.
And last, but not least, the Dolphins have announced that,
even though Chris Singleton will start at weakside linebacker, rookie
Anthony Harris will see more playing time than he has in the past. JJ
said that Harris will get more playing time because he provides good
speed at the position.
My Comments:
I am definitely against the new uniforms. Do the Dolphins
have any idea how much this is going to cost us fans, who now have to
go out and buy a whole new wardrobe to conform to the new uniforms???
How inconsiderate can they get?
And I can't wait to tell my wife, who will, no doubt, kill me
for having to buy all new clothes.
On a more serious note, has anybody noticed what the two
announcements this week about Anthony Harris and Sean Hill have in
common? First of all, both players are faster than the players that
they will be replacing. And secondly, both players are coming in for
veterans who made obvious, crucial mistakes against the Steelers on
Sunday.
Oliver made his mistake on the touchdown and Singleton made
his mistake when Bettis juked him out of his shoes on what should have
been a stop for a loss, that turned into a 10 yard gain.
I think that both these moves make sense against the Raiders,
that is a team built on speed. Plus, JJ is giving his youngsters
valuable playing time in real games. And since the Dolphins aren't
a SuperBowl team this year, it only makes sense to see how the kids
respond in a real game situation, especially with the veterans making
stupid mistakes.
It will, of course, be interesting to see how the youngsters
perform - whether they rise to the challenge or make bad mistakes.
