Nov 01, 1996: -- Zach Thomas named Defensive Rookie for October --
DOLPHINS NEWS:
The NFL has named Zach Thomas as the NFL defensive rookie of
the month for October. During October alone, Zach had 49 tackles, one
sack, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and one interception.
According to the NFL, the other nominee for the honor was
Chicago cornerback Walt Harris, who had 10 tackles, one pass defensed
and a blocked field goal.
Thomas joins Wide receiver-punt returner Eddie Kennison of the
St. Louis Rams, who is the NFL's offensive rookie of the month for
October.
My Comments:
Zach Thomas is well on his way to becoming the leading rookie
tackler in Dolphin history. With only half a season under his belt,
Thomas already has either 95 or 100 total tackles (depending on which
source you believe), 2 sacks, an interception, at least 2 fumble
recoveries, etc, etc, etc. He is playing way above his 5th round
pick and is the steal of the '96 draft.
In contrast, last year, Bryan Cox finished the entire season
with 120 total tackles.
