Oct 22, 1996: -- Cross to Practice --
DOLPHINS NEWS:
The Miami Herald is reporting today that Jeff Cross will
return to practice tomorrow. Cross has missed most of training camp
and all of the regular season so far with a back problem that required
surgery this summer.
Cross says that his back is stiff, but that he thinks he may
be able to play through it. However, he obviously won't know for sure
until he starts practicing.
Cross has been on the physically-unable-to-perform list and
hasn't counted against the Dolphins' 53 man roster. However, once he
starts practicing, the Dolphins have 3 weeks to either activate him,
waive him or place him on injured reserve.
In other news, tight end Troy Drayton suffered a sprained knee
in the Eagles game and may miss the Cowboys game because of it. The
team won't know until later in the week.
If Drayton isn't available, Brett Carolan will start at tight
end for the Dolphins.
My Comments:
Cross is 4th among the all-time sack leaders of the Dolphins,
but hasn't really been very effective for the last couple of years.
It's hard for me to imagine that his return will make all that much
difference to the defensive line.
On the other hand, the defensive line certainly needs
something to play better and perhaps Cross can bring some fire back to
that unit.
