Sep 07, 1996: -- Spikes Still Out --
DOLPHINS NEWS:
According to a report in the Miami Herald on Saturday, running
back Irving Spikes has reinjured his hamstring and will most likely be
inactive for Sunday's game in Arizona. This will give running back
Karim Abdul-Jabbar the starting job for the second week in a row.
Also in the news today, CB Calvin Jackson is healing quite
well and split time with JB Brown at starting cornerback during
practice on Friday. If he doesn't suffer any setbacks, he will
probably be available to start on Sunday.
The Herald is also reporting that DT Norman Hand, WR Fred
Barnett, WR Kirby Dar Dar, LB O.J. Brigance, RB Irving Spikes, S
Michael Stewart, QB Craig Erickson and WR Lamar Thomas are likely to
be inactive on Sunday.
My Comments:
I don't think that the team will miss Irving Spikes all that
much. Either the line will be able to open the holes and
Abdul-Jabbar, Parmalee and McPhail will have a good night or the line
will have trouble with Rice and Swann and they won't. The only place
the Dolphins could really use Spikes is on kick returns.
However, it appears that Jordan will play on Sunday and will
get a chance to return some kicks. This could help out the Dolphins
special teams.
