DOLPHINS NEWS:
The Dolphins announced the cuts they had made today to bring
the roster down to 60. The following players were cut:
OT Ethan Albright
CB Dorian Brew
CB Kirk Pointer
WR Kirby Dar Dar
WR A.C. Tellison
WR Sir Mawn Wilson
QB Dan McGwire
S Walter Smith
DT Lamar Mills
LB LaCurtis Jones
FB Lee McClinton
TE/FB/LB Dewayne Dotson
DT Ed Hawthorne
Also, Jeff Cross was officially placed on the Physically
unable to perform list. ESPN is also reporting that Bert Weidner
(ankle) and Kevin Brothen (knee) were placed on injured reserve. If
true, they would be gone for the year with relatively minor injuries
and that doesn't seem quite right.
However, the Dolphins Endzone's report is a little more
obscure. Their exact words are that Brothen and Weidner are "waived
injured to reserved injured with minor injuries". What that means,
I'm not sure, but it may be that there is some bizarre in-between
state where they're not actually on injured reserve but on something
like the PUP list.
Also in the news, the trade of Terry Kirby to San Francisco
was finalized, leaving the Dolphins with 60 players on the roster.
My Comments:
The biggest surprises on the list were Dorian Brew and Kirk
Pointer, because they were drafted by JJ fairly high. Also a little
surprising was the loss of LaCurtis Jones, although I hadn't really
heard much about him in the preseason.
