Dolphins News: Beavers Waived; Cross to have surgery
*** DOLPHINS NEWS ***
Jul 23, 1996: -- Beavers Waived; Cross to have surgery --
Both ESPN and Sportsline USA are reporting this afternoon that
the Dolphins have waived linebacker Aubrey Beavers. Beavers was a 2nd
round draft choice in 1994 and has played in every game since he was a
Dolphin, even starting last year in the first game at outside
linebacker.
Beavers, who was known for his athleticism was projected to
have been a starter this year, but faded to the second team after the
acquisition of linebacker Jack Del Rio moved Dwight Hollier into
Beaver's outside slot.
In other news, ESPN is reporting that Jeff Cross will have
surgery today to repair a degenerative disk in his back. This surgery
will keep him out of the lineup for 6-8 weeks, but he could be back to
play the majority of the season.
My Comments:
Well, this is a surprise! Beavers was thought to have the
starting spot at linebacker all but locked up under the new Jimmy
Johnson regime. Apparently, JJ didn't think as much of Beavers as we
all thought he did.
Boy, will *this* move cause some comments from the fans!
Well, I'm ready. I have my asbestos suit on and I'm well hidden
behind my sandbags, so...
Let 'er rip!
