Dolphins News: Armstrong and Williams Waived

*** DOLPHINS NEWS ***

Jun 09, 1996: -- Armstrong and Williams Waived --

In addition to Chuck Klingbeil, the Dolphins announced on Thursday that they have waived linebacker Antonio Armstrong and defensive end Rod Williams.

Armstrong was a free agent signed last year to help out with special teams and Williams was signed this spring as an undrafted rookie free agent.

Also in the news, with Eric Green being injured and not available until at least the middle of the season (provided he's not cut), Jimmy Johnson has stated that he was considering moving Keith Byars to tight end.

Byars has played the tight end position when he was with the Philadelphia Eagles, but he would rather play fullback. However, with the Dolphins drafting Stanley Pritchett and having Robert Wilson and Lee McClinton still on the roster, the Dolphins have an over-abundence of fullbacks.

My Comments:

And so it begins. With over 80 players on the roster now and the final roster being 53, about 30 players that currently wear aqua and orange will be looking for new jobs by September.

As far as moving Byars to tight end is concerned, he has said often that he would rather play fullback. However, he might just be the perfect tight end in a JJ style offense.
