Dolphins News: Cal Dixon Joins Phins.
*** DOLPHINS NEWS ***
Apr 17, 1996: -- Cal Dixon Joins Phins. --
The Dolphins announced yesterday that they had signed former
Jet Cal Dixon to a contract for undisclosed terms. Dixon, a 6'4", 302
lb center has played his entire career with the Jets. Last season, he
started 11 games at center.
Dixon was selected in the 5th round of the 1992 draft by the
Jets from the University of Florida and has played his entire career
with them, starting at center for most of the time he has been in New
York. Dixon, who was an unrestricted free agent, can also play
offensive guard.
The Dolphins also signed free agent offensive lineman Elbert
Berts, who didn't play football last season. He did spend some time
with the Dallas Cowboys last spring, but was waived before training
camp.
My Comments:
When Bert Weidner was waived in February, the Dolphins lost
both their backup center and a backup guard. Presumably, Dixon will
be able to fill that role. He may also be able to push Tim Ruddy for
the starting center spot, although I doubt that he'll actually be able
to unseat Ruddy from his starting role.
