Dolphins News: Charles Jordan Signed To Offer Sheet

Mar 06, 1996: -- Charles Jordan Signed To Offer Sheet --
The Dolphins announced today that they have signed restricted
free agent wide receiver Charles Jordan of the Green Bay Packers to an
offer sheet for an undisclosed amount. The Packers will have until
midnight on March 13th to match the offer.
Jordan (5'10", 183 lbs) played in 6 games for the Packers this
year, catching 7 passes for 117 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also
returned punts and kickoffs for Green Bay, returning 21 punts for 213
yards (10.1 yard/return average) and 21 kickoffs for 444 yards (21.1
yards/return average).
He signed with the Raiders in 1993 as a free agent and was
inactive for 6 games before being placed on injured reserve. Jordan
only played one year of College football at Long Beach City College.
My Comments:
Well, this one comes out of left field. I had heard that
Jimmy had worked out Jordan last month, but I thought it was just one
of those things that happens in the off-season. I didn't think they'd
make him an offer.
However, after looking at Jordan's punt return stats, I think
I can see why Jimmy might want to sign Jordan. If OJ is going to be a
featured receiver this coming year, then they'll probably want someone
else to return punts. Jordan's 10.1 yard/return average last year was
very good and was considerably better than McDuffie's 6.8 yards/return.
So it appears that Jimmy may be going after Jordan as a punt
returner - at least, that's my guess.
