Dolphins News: Dolphins Can't Match Eagles Offer
*** DOLPHINS NEWS ***
Mar 02, 1996: -- Dolphins Can't Match Eagles Offer --
The Philadelphia Enquirer is reporting that the Dolphins were
unable to put together a deal to keep Troy Vincent in Miami.
The Dolphins did manage to put together a deal that had the
same total as the Philadelphia offer ($16.5 million over 5 years), but
it was structured with a lower base salary and a higher bonus than the
Eagles' offer. The Dolphins tried on Friday to get Vincent's agents
to accept the restructured deal, but were turned down.
With the rejection of the restructured deal, the Dolphins have
decided not to try to match the exact offer of the Eagles and Troy
Vincent will be let go. The deciding factor was that the Dolphins
couldn't afford the approximately $4.5 million hit against the salary
cap this year that the Eagles offer would create.
My Comments:
It's unfortunate that the Dolphins couldn't match the Eagle's
offer. Vincent was our best cornerback and always played very hard.
He will be missed.
