Dolphins News: Jimmy Johnson Named Genearl Manager
*** DOLPHINS NEWS ***
Jan 17, 1996: -- Jimmy Johnson Named General Manager --
The Dolphins named Eddie Jones as President and Chief
Operating Officer of the team and formally named Jimmy Johnson as
General Manager on Tuesday.
Jones is in his ninth year with the Dolphins. He was Executive
Vice President and General Manager for the past six seasons, and he
was President and Chief Operating Officer of the New Orleans Saints
from 1982 to 1985.
Johnson, who replaced Don Shula as the third Head Coach of the
Dolphins last week, was officially given complete control of the team
when he was named to be the General Manager. When Shula was the Head
Coach, he was never named as General Manager, even though he
controlled all aspects of player selection in his later years.
My Comments:
Eddie Jones has been well regarded by almost everyone as long
as he has been with the Dolphins. Jones has been responsible for
getting players signed once they were selected and he has done an
admirable job over the years.
The nameing of JJ to be the General Manager is just a
formality.
