Dolphins News: Marino Awarded but Cox Sues...

Dec 07, 1995: -- Marino Awarded but Cox Sues... --
Dan Marino was named AFC player of the week for his
performance in last Sunday's game against the Atlanta Falcons. During
the game, Marino passed for 343 yards and 2 touchdowns, the last one
with 11 seconds remaining to lead the Dolphins to a 21-20 victory over
the Falcons.
In other news, Bryan Cox announced he is suing radio station
WIOD-AM in Miami for $15 million dollars for what he calls defamatory
remarks. Apparently, WIOD radio host Phil Hendrie, who has been doing
impersonations of Bryan Cox for about a year, did a show on Nov 6 and
7 when he impersonated Cox saying that he (Cox) was gay and was
leaving his wife.
Cox claims that the broadcast has hurt his family and that his
daughter was even harassed in school because of it.
In other news, JB Brown will be out for at least another week
with the injury to his knee. But he should be back in time for the
Bills game.
My Comments:
I believe that Marino is the first Dolphin who was named as
player of the week this year. He certainly deserves it for the gutsy
performance he put on last Sunday. Heck, he deserves it for
scrambling 12 yards late in the 4th quarter.
Bryan Cox really needs to lighten up. He is carrying his
problems with the media way too far. He will probably not be able to
collect any money because the media is pretty well protected where a
public figure is concerned - and God knows, Cox is a public figure.
