Dolphins News: Frankie Smith Suffers Hip Pointer
*** DOLPHINS NEWS ***
Nov 07, 1995: -- Frankie Smith Suffers Hip Pointer --
USA Today is reporting this morning that Frankie Smith
suffered a hip pointer in the win over San Diego on Sunday night. This
was the only injury of note during the game.
Smith got the hip pointer when he collided with fellow Dolphin
Pat Johnson on kickoff return coverage.
Smith had been promoted to the official nickel back position
ahead of Terrel Buckley for his outstanding play, but this may
sideline him for 1-2 weeks and make Buckley the starting nickel back
once again.
My Comments:
A hip pointer is a deep bruise that can be very painful, but
is not a serious long term injury. At worst, Smith will be out for a
couple of weeks.
My guess is that he'll probably sit out the Patriot's game in
order to heal and be ready for the 49ers on Monday night.
