Dolphins News: Marino's Surgery Sidelines Him for 1-2 Weeks
*** DOLPHINS NEWS ***
Oct 10, 1995: -- Marino's Surgery Sidelines Him for 1-2 Weeks --
Dan Marino had successful arthroscopic surgery on his right
knee yesterday morning to repair a torn medial meniscus that he
suffered in Sunday's loss to the Colts. He also had some blood
drained from the hip that was injured during the game.
This was the first time that Marino has had surgery to his
right knee, but his left knee has been operated on six different
times.
Don Shula said that Marino will definitely miss next week's
game against the Saints and will be evaluated on a week-to-week basis
after that.
While Marino is on the sidelines, Bernie Kosar will assume the
responsibility as the Dolphins starting quarterback. Kosar said that
he's in great shape, having avoided the pounding from defensive
linemen that starting quarterbacks take and that he's ready to go.
This will be Kosar's first start with the Dolphins.
My Comments:
If it was going to happen, this was the best time for it to
happen. Miami is in a soft part of the schedule and Marino should be
back in time for the game against Buffalo.
Even though Shula has said that Marino will be "week-to-week"
after this weekend, don't expect him back against the Jets. Shula
will save him for the Bills in 2 weeks.
Speaking of the Bills, Buffalo QB Jim Kelly has supposedly
been trying to get in touch with Marino to "wish him well". He did
say that he wished Marino would take his time coming back and that
maybe he could come back the week after the Buffalo game.
I'm sure that Kelly is just concerned about (*ahem*) Dan's
health...
