Dolphins News: Practice Squad Named, McHale Signed

*** DOLPHINS NEWS ***

Aug 31, 1995: -- Practice Squad Named, McHale Signed --

According to USA Today, the Dolphins have announced that the following players were signed to the practice squad as of yesterday: WR/RB Kirby Dar Dar, C Jason James, TE Joe Planansky, CB Calvin Jackson and S Chico Nelson.

Not signed was RB Brent Moss, which will come as a surprise to some people. No reasons are known at this time, although the team is believed to be interested in signing him.

In other news, LB Bryan Cox, DT Tim Bowens, FB Keith Byars, TE Ronnie Williams, and FB Robert Wilson were all back at practice on Monday, indicating that they will all be able to play on Sunday.

Still not practicing as of Wednesday is WR Gary Clark, who aggravated a hamstring pull against the Bucs. Right now, both Clark and Weidner have about a 50/50 chance of playing against the Jets, although Clark is adament that he will play against the Jets on Sunday.

USA Today is also stating that the Dolphins have signed OL Tom McHale to take Kevin Brothen's place on the roster. McHale, at 6'4" and 290 lbs is in his 9th year out of Cornell. He spent his first 6 seasons on the Buccaneer's roster and the last 2 with the Eagles.

The Dolphin Digest is reporting that while the Dolphins are looking at McHale, they haven't actually signed him yet.

My Comments:

The fact that Moss hasn't been signed comes as a bit of a surprise and I'm not sure what the thinking is. There are a lot of possibilities, but I'm reluctant to speculate.

The word on McHale (thanks to LADave) is that McHale is a steady, if unspectacular performer. Since he's lasted 8 years in the league, he must have some talent.
