Dolphins News: Dar Dar Waived; Webb signs Extension
*** DOLPHINS NEWS ***
Aug 23, 1995: -- Dar Dar Waived; Webb signs Extension --
The Dolphins announced yesterday that they had waived Wide
Receiver Kirby Dar Dar in order to bring their roster down to the 60
player limit.
Additionally, the Dolphins signed injured wide receiver Shannon
Myers, their last draft pick and placed him on the injured reserve
list.
In other news, the Miami Herald is reporting that the Dolphins
have signed perennial Pro-Bowl tackle Richmond Webb to a one-year
contract extension through 1998 that includes a $2.8 million signing
bonus. The deal would keep Webb the highest paid offensive lineman
in the game.
Because of the structure of the contract, it would also free up
some money ( probably about $800,000 ) under the salary cap.
The Dolphins have not confirmed the deal with Webb.
My Comments:
The release of Dar Dar is not a huge surprise, given the depth at
wide receiver and running back, even though I had heard some good
things about him.
The signing of Shannon Myers was expected, because the Dolphins
want to keep him on the roster, even though he won't play this year.
They liked what little they had seen of Myers before he injured his
kidney in Pre-Camp.
The contract extension for Webb is a good deal for everyone
involved, if a bit of a surprise. However, with the money that it
frees up under the cap, it will allow the Dolphins to pursue
extensions with Cox and Sims, not to mention other available free
agents.
