Dolphins' News: James Saxon signs with Chiefs
*** DOLPHINS NEWS ***
Jun 20, 1995: -- James Saxon signs with Chiefs --
Unrestricted free agent James Saxon was signed by the Kansas City
Chiefs yesterday to a succession of three one-year contracts for
undisclosed terms.
Saxon had spent the last three years with the Dolphins before he
signed with the Chiefs. Last year, he started in seven games for the
Dolphins after Byars was sidelined with a knee injury.
He carried the ball 8 times last season for 16 yards and caught 27
passes for a total of 151 yards and no touchdowns.
In other news, former Dolphins' linebacker David Griggs was killed
in a car accident in Florida on Tuesday morning. Griggs had played
five seasons with the Dolphins before he was signed last year by the
San Diego Chargers.
My Comments:
Saxon's most valuable contribution to the team was as a backup to
Keith Byars. However, he was never more than a backup. If Robert
Wilson or one of the rookies can step up and play well in Byar's
absence, then Saxon won't be missed too much.
Griggs' death is just one of those senseless tragedies that
strikes from time to time. I thought Griggs played pretty well while
he was here and was a valuable part of our team.
