Dolphins' News: Atkins Gets Contract Extension
*** DOLPHINS NEWS ***
Jun 06, 1995: -- Atkins Gets Contract Extension --
ESPN is reporting this afternoon that Gene Atkins has signed a
two year contract extension with the Dolphins through the 1999 season.
Pete Stoyanovich is reported to have also signed a contract extension
through the year 2000.
Also, the Dolphins have waived rookie free agent safety Melvin
Crawford, fullback Michael Davis and defensive end Steve Perkins.
And last, but not least, the Boston Globe reported this morning
that the Buffalo Bills have signed former Dolphins free agent safety
Chris Green to a contract for undisclosed terms.
My Comments:
With contract extensions, the Dolphins are just planning ahead to
keep their best players. It makes a lot of sense to sign the best
players before their contracts run out.
I know that some people have been projecting Davis to actually
play with the Dolphins this year, but apparently he didn't impress the
coaches during the recent minicamp.
And Chris Green is going to the Bills. He has never produced
much for the Dolphins and was made to look foolish last year against
the Vikings. With the addition of Louis Oliver, he won't be missed
much, if at all.
