Dolphins' News: Gary Clark Becomes a 'Phin
*** DOLPHINS NEWS ***
May 01, 1995: -- Gary Clark Becomes a 'Phin --
Yesterday, the Dolphins announced that they had signed former
Washington and Phoenix wide receiver Gary Clark to a 2-year deal for
an undisclosed amount.
Clark, the 4 time Pro-Bowler, who is 8th on the all-time
receiving list, caught 50 passes last season for 771 yards and a
touchdown. He was third on the team in receptions, but lead all
Arizona Cardinals' receivers in yardage.
In ten years of football, Clark has caught 662 passes for 10,331
yards and 63 touchdowns. That's an average of 66 passes, 1033 yards
and 6.3 touchdowns per year. His best year was 1991 with the
Redskins, when he caught 70 passes for 1340 yards and 10 touchdowns.
His lifetime average is 15.6 yards/catch.
My Comments:
Well, this was a big surprise! I hadn't heard that Clark was
even interested in Miami and then I read that he's visiting and before
I can blink, he's signed. Congratulations to Eddie Jones and Tom
Heckert for getting Clark signed.
The rumor is that Clark wanted to stay in the NFC East, but was
so impressed with the Dolphins, that he signed almost immediately.
This is a great signing for the Dolphins. At the very least, the
Dolphins will have added experience and depth at wide receiver. At
most, Clark could challenge McDuffie for a starting job, although I
doubt that they'll use him that way.
It's just another in a series of exciting moves for the Dolphins
during the off-season.
