Dolphins' News: Bullough, Moss, 6 others sign
*** DOLPHINS NEWS ***
Apr 29, 1995: -- Bullough, Moss, 6 others sign --
The Dolphins announced yesterday that they had signed
linebacker Chuck Bullough to a one year contract. Bullough was an
unrestricted free agent who had started one game with the Dolphins
last season before he was injured and forced to sit out the rest of
the season.
The Dolphins also signed running back Brent Moss from
Wisconsin, who was originally expected to be picked in the middle
rounds of this year's draft, until he pleaded guilty to possession of
crack cocaine last November.
And if that wasn't enough, Moss violated his probation this
spring when he tested positive for an unspecified controlled substance
on March 10th. As part of his probation, Moss is required to take a
urinalysis test for controlled substances at least once a week.
The Dolphins signed Moss to a one-year deal worth $119,000
plus incentives based on playing time.
In addition to Moss and Bullough, the Dolphins signed the
following rookie free agents:
RB Tarrant Lynch
WR Robert Amir-Rashad
WR Burt Thornton
WR Mark Whittemore
K Craig Fayak
S Larry Kennedy
My Comments:
The Dolphins are clearly taking a big gamble with Moss, but
it's a gamble that's probably worth the risk. Troy Vincent thinks
highly enough of Moss that he said "He was the man at Wisconsin who
took them to the Rose Bowl in 1994. I told him that anything I can do
to get him with the right people, I'll be glad to do for him."
Also, the Dolphins' college scouting staff apparently had Moss
rated as a potential second round draft pick. For the little money
that they paid to get him, it's a good deal.
I was also glad to see Chuck Bullough resigned. Last year, he
never really got to show what he could do after getting injured.
