Dolphins' News: Dolphins trade Keith Jackson to Green Bay

*** DOLPHINS NEWS ***

Mar 29, 1995: -- Dolphins trade Keith Jackson to Green Bay --

Satchel sports reported today that the Dolphins have traded former Pro-Bowl tight end Keith Jackson to the Green Bay Packers for a second round draft pick.

Jackson, who finished second on the team with 59 receptions for 673 yards and 7 touchdowns, was going into the final year of his contract with the Dolphins. He had stated that he would retire after this season.

In addition to Jackson, the Dolphins gave back the 4th round draft pick that they had gotten in the trade for Ingram. This should free up around $1 million under the salary cap.

My Comments:

When the Dolphins signed Eric Green, Keith Jackson's career with the Dolphins effectively ended. He has said that he would quit before he would play for another team, so it will be interesting to see what happens.

Jackson was a big deal when he came to the Dolphins and has helped out enormously in some of the games that the Dolphins have played over the last three years. But despite his talent, he has been plagued with inconsistency and this past year was dogged with criticism about dropping passes and making bad decisions on the field.

However, it isn't clear to me that Eric Green is a big improvement. He also has a reputation for inconsistency, dropped passes and has had drug problems in the past. He is supposed to be a better blocker than Jackson, though, so I believe that this is part of the plan to improve the Dolphins' running game.
