*** DOLPHINS NEWS ***
Jul 08, 1997: -- More Draftees Sign --

The Dolphins Endzone is reporting this afternoon that the Dolphins have signed draftees DT Barron Tanner and OL Brent Smith today. They are also reporting what the Sun-Sentinel reported this morning - that the Dolphins have signed CB Hudhaifa Ismaeli and DE Dunstan Anderson.

In addition, ESPNet Sportszone is reporting that the Dolphins have also signed LBs Derrick Rodgers and Ronnie Ward. Since this was not reported by the Dolphins Endzone, it may be that they have simply agreed to terms and not actually signed contracts.

All of the rookie contracts are reported to be for 3 years for undisclosed terms. However, Tanner will have a minimum salary deal with a signing bonus that is probably around $100,000. It's difficult to guess what the deals for Smith, Rodgers and Ward are, but since they were all taken at the end of the third round, their deals are probably for the rookie minimum with $250-300,000 signing bonuses.

Assuming for the moment that ESPN is accurate, that leaves DE Jason Taylor as the last unsigned Dolphin draftee this year. Coincidentally, the last player signed last year was also a mid-3rd rounder. It was Karim Abdul-Jabbar.

My Comments:

This is good news, although it's not particularly surprising. If Taylor has any brains at all, he'll be signed by the end of the week.

I must admit that this year has been very confusing trying to keep track of all the signings with the different reports, but I think that it's safe to say that the only player left to sign is Jason Taylor.
