Dolphins News: Eric Green has Surgery; Other News...

*** DOLPHINS NEWS ***

May 22, 1996: -- Eric Green has Surgery; Other News... --

The Dolphins announced yesterday that Eric Green has undergone arthroscopic surgery to repair cartilege damage on his left knee, which he injured while running at home after the Dolphins quarterback camp.

The surgery was performed at the University of Pittsburgh and his status is unknown at this time, but Coach Jimmy Johnson has stated that his medical status will be re-evaluated prior to the start of training camp on July 15th.

In other news, the Dolphins have announced that they have signed cornerback Sean Hill to a new contract for undisclosed terms. Hill has been primarily a special teams player for the Dolphins and last year, he was second on the team in special teams tackles with 17.

The Dolphins have also signed free agents O.J. Brigance and Rod Williams. Brigance (at 6'0" and 220 lbs) is a linebacker who has played with the Canadian Football League for the last 5 years - 2 with the Baltimore Stallions and 3 with the British Columbia Lions.

Rod Williams (6'3"; 260 lbs) is an undrafted rookie defensive end who started 4 years at Florida A&M and had a total of 269 tackles (158 solo), 29.5 sacks, 30 tackles for a loss and 7 blocked passes during his college career.

And last, but not least, the Dolphins have announced the hiring of Jeff Smith as a regional scout. He spent last year working with the Philadelphia Eagles and is probably a Bob Ackles protege'.

As a result of his hiring, the Dolphins have declined to renew the contracts of scout Bobby Williams, who spent nine years with the Dolphins, and Joe Bushofsky, with Miami for six years.

My Comments:

Only Eric Green could injure his knee while working out at home. And if that wasn't bad enough, it's the same knee that he injured in the Saints game last year.

About the only thing good that I can say about it is that the Dolphins probably won't miss him.

I don't know much about the other players that were signed, but Brigance fits JJ's mold of a smaller, more mobile linebacker and Williams could be a diamond in the rough, or he could be another player that we'll have forgotten in 6 months.
