Completed TradesThe Dolphins have executed a trade for the following players: | |||

---|---|---|---|
Jason Ferguson | NT | The Dolphins have traded 6th round picks with the Cowboys for defensive tackle Jason Ferguson. Ferguson is entering his 12th season in the NFL and has followed Bill Parcells from New York to Dallas to Miami. He is a very good defensive tackle, but became expendable after suffering a season-ending injury in 2007. He is a steady player and will be a good anchor for the middle of a 3-4 defensive alignment. | |
Trades In NegotiationThe Dolphins are in the process of negotiating to trade for these players. |

Failed TradesThe Dolphins tried to complete a trade for the following players, but were unsuccessful. |
|||
Name | Pos | Comments | |
Shaun Rogers | NT | Traded from Detroit to Cleveland. Rogers is a very talented nose tackle and at 6'4" and 340 pounds, would be an excellent anchor for the middle of a 3-4 defense. He has spent his entire 7 year career in Detroit and is considered one of the best nose tackles in the league. Last season, he recorded 7 sacks and an interception return for a touchdown. However, he was suspended for 4 games in 2006 for a positive drug test that his agent blamed on appetite suppressant medication. He is also known to be somewhat tempermental. | |

Free Agents Visiting With DolphinsThe following players have visited or talked to the Dolphins, but have not signed a contract as yet. |
|||
Name | Pos | Comments | |
Calvin Pace | LB | Pace has signed with the Jets. Pace started his career as a defensive end for the Arizona Cardinals, but blossomed last season when moved to outside linebacker in a 3-4 alignment. His strength is rushing the passer from the outside. The Dolphins pursued him hard on the first day of free agency and reportedly offered him a 5 year deal in the range of $40 million. | |
Interest ListThe Dolphins are reported to have an interest in the following players, but no deals or visits have been reported yet. |

Dolphins Free Agents |

Dolphins Re-Signed Free Agents:Players who were free agents that the Dolphins have re-signed. |
|||
Name | Pos | Comments | |
Yeremiah Bell | S | According to the Sun-Sentinel, Bell has re-signed with the Dolphins. Bell came on strong in 2006 and had firmly entrenched himself as the starter by the end of the season. He started 2007 with high hopes, only to be sidelined in the first game of the year with a season-ending knee injury. Bell was the best safety the Dolphins have had in several years and an excellent player. He is a free agent this season and is testing the market, but it seems unlikely that any other team will sign him to a better deal that Miami would be willing to pay.
Projected Role: Starting Safety |
|
Dolphins Unrestricted Free Agents:An unrestricted free agent may sign with any team in the NFL, unless the Dolphins place the franchise tag on them. When considering the possibility that they may re-sign with the Dolphins, there are two things to consider: Their value to the Dolphins and their potential value to another team. |

Name | Pos | Comments | |
Jesse Chatman | RB | Chatman will visit the Jets on Wednesday, March 5th. Jesse Chatman was brought in by Cam Cameron last year after spending a year out of football. He did a decent job last year as a backup to Ronnie Brown, picking up 515 yards at 4.0 yards per carry and catching 27 passes for 161 yards. Chatman is a good back, but it's tough to tell how Bill Parcells feels about him. On the surface, he would seem to be the kind of back that Parcells would appreciate, but the Dolphins have apparently made no move to re-sign him. Re-signing Probability: Medium |
|
Gene Mruczkowski | OL | Mruczkowski signed with the Dolphins last year as a backup offensive lineman after spending 4 years with the Patriots. He played in all 16 games in 2007, but never managed to crack the starting lineup. Considering the state of the team last year, that is not a ringing endorsement. It seems unlikely that Bill Parcells will want him back, although he could probably be had for a minimum salary and he is relatively young. Re-signing Probability: Low |
|
Rex Hadnot | OL | Reportedly visiting Cleveland. Hadnot has been a fixture on the offensive line, either at center or guard, every year since he was drafted in 2004. He has been one of the more consistent players - a hard worker and a fierce competitor. However, the Dolphins have failed to sign him and according to reports in the media, have not shown much interest in him. It seems unlikely that they would just toss him aside, but clearly they are not beating down his door to get him to re-sign, either. He will probably be back if he can't find a big contract elsewhere. Re-signing Probability: Medium |
|
Chris Liwienski | OL | Liwienski is a 10 year veteran who spent the first 8 years of his career starting for the Vikings. However, he left them in 2006 and after spending a year in Arizona, wound up in Miami. He is clearly on the downside of his career and while he is a capable veteran, he is not going to help the Dolphins advance to the next level. He did start 14 games last year for Miami, but the current administration has shown no interest in having him return. Re-signing Probability: Low |
|
Donnie Spragan | LB | Spragan filled in well last season after losing his starting position to Joey Porter. With a new regime in place, he is on the block again. He is another player that the Dolphins would like to replace with someone better and with their salary cap space they should be able to upgrade at that position.
Re-Signing Probability: Low |
|
Derrick Pope | LB | Pope was drafted in the 7th round of the 2004 draft by the Dolphins. He has been a good backup during his 4 years in Miami, but has never permanently cracked the starting lineup. Last year, he started 9 games due to injuries to other players and recorded 64 tackles and 2 interceptions. He is a young player that is well known in Miami, but he is not very big and may not fit the Bills Parcells mold for linebackers. If he could be re-signed for a minimum salary, he may be, but it seems unlikely at this time.
Re-Signing Probability: Low |
|
Lance Schulters | S | Schulters is an aging veteran safety, whose best years are behind him. At one time, he was one of the better safeties in the league, but that was 5 years ago. In 2007, he was out of football until the Dolphins asked him to come back and play because of all the injuries to Miami's defensive secondary. It would surprise me if Miami re-signed him.
Re-Signing Probability: Low |
|
Travares Tillman | S | Tillman lost his starting spot to Yeremiah Bell midway through the 2006 season. He is a fair backup, but not a starter. He can learn the system and he plays fairly well, but he lacks instincts and timing. It seems unlikely he'll be re-signed.
Re-Signing Probability: Low |
|
Cleo Lemon | QB | Signed with Jacksonville. Cleo Lemon has not progressed as hoped with the Dolphins and did not show any progress in 2007. He was the best of a bad bunch of quarterbacks for Miami, but the Dolphins have been actively seeking other veterans to play the backup quarterback position. | |
Dolphins Restricted Free Agents:Restricted free agents must be offered a contract by the Dolphins in order to retain their rights. If the Dolphins do offer them a contract, any team trying to sign them away from the Dolphins must offer a bigger contract and if the player signs with that team, must provide compensation to the Dolphins in the form of a draft pick. Also, the Dolphins have the right to match any offer made to their restricted free agents and keep them. |
|||
Name | Pos | Comments | |
Cory Lekkerkerker | OL | Lekkerkerker is a big, strong tackle that Cameron brought in from San Diego. He did start two games last year for the Dolphins, but didn't do enough to crack the starting lineup or to cause anyone to try and sign him. He might be back for a minimum salary, but there is no word that the Dolphins made him a tender offer to lock up his rights. Re-signing Probability: Low |
|
Samkon Gado | RB | Gado was brought in late last season to fill in at running back after injuries depleted the ranks. He is a restricted free agent, but the Dolphins did not tender him a qualifying offer, so he may sign with any team. Re-signing Probability: Low |
|
Dolphins Exclusive Rights Free Agents:If Miami makes them a qualifying offer, these players can only sign with Miami. |
|||
Name | Pos | Comments | |
Patrick Cobbs | RB | Cobbs has been tendered a miminum qualifying offer from the Dolphins. Cobbs was picked up in 2006 after being waived by the Steelers early in the regular season. He had a good pre-season in 2007 and made the roster as a surprise. He started the regular season on the inactive list for 2 games, but eventually played in 14 games in a reserve role, mostly on special teams. He has shown some talent, both rushing and receiving and is a good all-around player. | |
Greg Camarillo | WR | Camarillo has been tendered a miminum qualifying offer from the Dolphins. Camarillo was brought over from the Chargers by Cam Cameron to try and shore up the special teams, but proved a valuable asset late in the year as he caught the touchdown pass from Cleo Lemon that gave the Dolphins their only win of the season. While his overall season stats were not spectacular, he showed promise at the end of the year. | |
