Dolphins News: Cox Close to Signing With Da' Bears
*** DOLPHINS NEWS ***
Feb 20, 1996: -- Cox Close to Signing With Da' Bears --
ESPNet is reporting this afternoon that Bryan Cox is very
close to signing a multiyear contract with the Chicago Bears.
According to ESPN, Cox visited the Bears' headquarters today and is
quoted as saying that they hope to have an announcement tomorrow.
The Bears' head coach Dave Wannstedt also confirmed that a
deal is imminent, saying on Tuesday that nothing has been finalized,
but that it was very close.
Apparently, Cox was impressed with the Bears' defensive scheme
that would allow him to play middle linebacker and still rush the
passer in third down situations.
My Comments:
I had heard that Cox was going to allow the Dolphins to match
any offers that he received, but the tone of the ESPN article was that
Cox was ready to sign with Bears immediately.
I will miss Bryan Cox and if he does sign with the Bears next
year, I will probably watch a couple of Bears' games just to watch him
play. Regardless of what was going on, Cox always played with
intensity and fire and watching him was always fun for me.
